🏛️Rome

Very safe by European standards. The main risk is pickpocketing on the Metro Line A, around Termini station, and at Colosseo, Trevi, and Vatican crowds. Violent crime is rare.

April–June and September–October offer mild weather and thinner crowds. August is hot and many Roman-owned shops close for ferragosto.

• Trastevere — atmospheric, nightlife, small pensioni
• Prati — quiet, elegant, near the Vatican
• Centro Storico — pricier, steps from Pantheon and Navona

• Metro

  Three lines (A, B, C). €1.50 single, €7 day pass. Runs 05:30–23:30 (until 01:30 Fri–Sat).

• Tram

  Six lines useful for Trastevere (No. 8) and San Giovanni (No. 3).

• Bus

  ATAC network is extensive but slow in traffic. Same ticket as metro.

• Bicycle

  Rideable but cobblestones and traffic are challenging. Dedicated lanes limited.

• Taxi

  White cabs only, from official ranks. Base €3 day / €5 night. Fixed airport fares.

• Car rental

  Not recommended inside the ZTL (limited traffic zone) — heavy fines.

Airport to city center

• Train — Leonardo Express

  Non-stop to Roma Termini in 32 min. €14 one-way, every 15 min from 06:23 to 22:53.

• Train — FL1 regional

  To Trastevere, Ostiense, Tiburtina. €8, ~30–45 min.

• Airport bus

  SIT, Terravision, T.A.M.: €7 to Termini, ~55 min depending on traffic.

• Taxi

  Fixed €55 fare from FCO to any address inside the Aurelian Walls.
